Hi all,

I am new to the cichlid community and the only cichlids I owned in the past were oscars and convicts. I had my 125 gallon tank running for a long time before the last 4 years when I had to shut it down while at college. But now I just set it back up with a whole new look. I still have to cycle the big guy but in the meantime I am trying to determine what I am going to stock it with. My current set-up is as follows:

125 Gallon (72"L X 18"W X 24"H)
Substrate: Aragonite (Aragamax Select)
Decor: Lava, volcanic, quartz, green, and a variety of other rocks (decent amount of hiding places)
Filtration:
Rena Filstar XP3
Fluval 405
Aquaclear 110

Total Gph: Approx 1200 gph

Currently I am leaning towards owning Nimbochromis venustus, but am trying to determine tank mates. I like larger fish.

I've heard that blue haps and various peacocks make for good tank mates and I love the looks of all of these guys. I would really like to get a RTBS as well, but do you guys think he is compatable, Ive heard mixed experiences. Am also thinking about some Clown Loaches. Let me know what you guys think?

Try posting the same in the Cichlid section, you might get more answers here. General Discussion is ok for things that most would know an answer to, but if its specific fish, we have specific sub categories for them.

Hope this helps!

You need to make a decision, you either want African cichlids or not because they cant be mixed with loaches and sharks. Completely different requirements and will most likely get beaten up.

I would forget the shark and loaches and go with some big haps!

I have a huge Aulonocara Borleyi male and he is soooooooooo gorgeous, though not as gorgeous as the pair of huge Malawi Eyebiters (misnomer as they are far better behaved than the other haps etc). Ohh and Hap Milomo VC10, they are gorgeous!!!

Thanks for all the input guys! I will definitely try posting in the Cichlid section. However, in response to RTBS comment, I have actually read that they are fairly compatable and sometimes even tend to bully the cichlids, providing there is enough space and hiding places in the tank.
