Tetratec Ex700

Hi has anybody any idea what would cause my tetratec ex700 filter to have a drastic loss of flow ? .The filter is about 15 months old and ive never had any problems with it. Last week i gave it a good clean out sponges noodles rings all in old tank water, this ive done a few times before but this week ive noticed the tank looked cloudy but i didnt notice the filter flow had dropped until i changed water today. The flow is very light, ive took it apart seemed ok nothing blocked but still the flow is more than 50% down i would think, any help would be appreciated thanks Mick.

Check the impeller housing and if there is filter floss in there remove it, check the filter pipes for blockages also, that includes spray bars and intake strainers.

Hi standbysetting, thanks for reply ive looked at all pipes they are clear and the impeller is clean,also when i press the primer button the flow increases then dies back to a trickle i just cant work it out.

Are the taps fully open? O-ring properly greased? Is it sealing properly?

Yes taps fully open all sealed fine. But when i turn tap down just a fraction it nearly cuts the flow completely, the when i open it fully again it comes out in a flourish for a cpl secs then dies down.

When mine slows down,its an airlock after putting it back on or when the top filter floss needs replacing.

Have you tried giving the filter a shake,you'll hear it if air is trapped in there.

that would be my first thought, too. that or an air leak. but the impeller magnet could have come unstuck from the central shaft. this would mean, if at all, the impeller would drive, erratically. I had a similar problem with a 2213 i bought secondhand. the impeller looked fine. but the magnet was spinning and the impeller hardly at all.

yeah, the impeller does come off the shaft, i had my interpet pf1 die on me coz of that. had to do watet changes every day

aha, i think i didn't make myself clear. i meant the plastic shaft(tunnel?) the magnet should be glued to. not the metal/ceramic shaft itself. it should spin on that.

On the tetratec the plastic shaft/spindle comes out when you lift the propeller/magnet up,i've snapped one of these in the past,especially if you dont line it up properly in the bottom hole


Mick- did you clean the housing where the propeller sits? also the holes for inlet/outlet pour a little tank water through to swish it around,its surprising what gunk comes out

i used the hot metal to melt it back together, works fine now
