Not a question, just my experience incase any one is interested in the Tetra SafeStart product, which is the UK version of BioSpira.

After very recenty getting into tropical fish after keeping 2 HUGE Oranda for 9 months and deciding to buy a 108l tank I completely forgot about cycling (I know, stupid but was too enthusiastic). I realised what I'd done very quickly and ran out to my LFS in Lincoln. To my utter suprise they had an entire Tetra stand so I picked up 2 100ml bottles of SafeStart.

My water conditions were terrible at this point after just a week, obviously I had been doing 3 daily water changes and adding Interpret stuff to try to get the bacteria going in my tank but no luck it would seem. I decided to restart the tank and go fully planted, and picked up a few plants until the ones I decided to order get here next week. I emptied the tank, completely washed it out, and replaced the substrates using sand instead of gravel on top of Plant Complete substrate.

I then whacked an entire bottle of SafeStart into the tank after filling, and put the fish in straight away. After 3 days the Nitrate is sitting at 10 (my water here is 10), Nitrite at 0.25, and Ammo at 0.25 (water is 0.25 here). I couldn't believe how good this product is, it really does do what it says on the tin. This was with a brand new tank, and brand new EX1200 TetraTec canister filter I bought while getting the SafeStart.

Highly recommend this to anyone starting up a new tank quickly, or want to give the cycle a REALLY big boost.

I also have had good experiences with safestart!
got a QT semi cycling on it at the moment with harleys in there....only reason ammonia goes above 0 is because the harleys are so nervous they're not really eating yet, and it's been excess waste food.
Nitrite has stayed at 0 :good:
