Hello, everyone!

I've been surfing this web site for a few days now and I must say there is a really great group of people here; very friendly and helpful toward one another. I visited a few other forums, but found myself always coming back here. It's a great site, very well managed and easy to navigate. Did I mention the friendly people?

After the loss of my Golden Retriever, I thought I'd give tropical fish another go. This is my 4th tank; I was really into tropical fish from the early 80's to the mid-90s. I've had both freshwater and saltwater aquariums, but prefer freshwater because of their ease to maintain...at least for me. Due to frequent moving and the type of work I did at the time, I had to give up the hobby. It's been about ten years since my last tank, but I'm jumping in feet first and am rather excited about it.

Two nights ago I purchased a 29-gallon tank and with the help of my son I'm going to install it over the weekend. Tonight I'll be spray painting the rear of the tank black, which will probably be a longer process than normal because it's so darn cold in the garage. Tomorrow, it gets brought upstairs for assembly

I found a very informative post on this site on cycling a new tank and will use the "Add and Wait" method. I know my son is anxious to get fish added, but I want to do it right. Admittedly, I never used this method before but want to give it a try. In the past I simply added water, de-chlorinated, and added a fish and let a few weeks pass. It worked rather well, but after reading many posts in this forum of problems people have had using this method I was reminded of similar problems I experienced myself. So, this time I do it right. To the person who posted that valuable information, many-many thanks!

Anyway, I'm glad to be here and look forward to forum participation!

Oh, and my name is Steve.
