im getting my house tented for termites. what exactly am i suppose to do with the fish? anybody have experience with this????
i was thinking maybe just sending the fish to a store for fishsitting, and just draining all the water out of the tank, and moving it outside or something.? please i would like to hear what you did IF you've had this happen

I take it your from Australia or one of the hotter US states, what exactly does the termite eradication/prevention process involve first.

If you are about to get the complete house gassed for termites, you can't leave any living thing inside. To me that would mean not only the fish come out but as you said, you need to deal with not getting the poisons into the tanks themselves. Your plan sounds like a good idea to me but I don't know where you will find a LFS to fish sit for a few days for you. My thought would be to try to keep the fish in some buckets for the short time that you are out of the house. For that short time there would be no need to feed the fish so you might not have too much water troubles with the temporary accomodations. Keeping the filter media alive would probably be more of a challenge but I'm sure it can be done by putting the media right into the temporary buckets and stirring the water with an air stone. It might even help keep the ammonia and nitrites down while you wait out the tenting.

make sure you wash all your dishes and floors and everything after the gassing process. The residue from the fog is toxic to everything and you don't want to use any dishes or cuttlery until it has been cleaned.

If you can get the tank out of the house that is best otherwise remove the fish and filter and cover the tank in plastic and seal it up so the fog can't get into the tank. Then rinse the tank out afterwards and start it up.
