over the aus spring/summer (sep->feb) my tank was hardly below 31C with peaks lasting a week at a time to 35C. i observed no distress or otherwise to my fish (even my peppered corys) and suffered no casualties. and i live in a more temperate part of aus. dont know what the concern is.

also

r an easier method turn the stat down on the heater a few C then you will still have what your looking for thats what ive done today

that wont work if the ambient temperature is above ur desired temperature

Still warm here in Leeds, my tank is currently sitting at 29 celcius with heater unplugged.

I wouldnt recommend using ice to cool down the tank, it has little effect and quickly melts when put into a tank, all that you'd be doin is fluctuating the temperature which the fish wont appreciate.

The best method is to aim a fan or cooler along the top of your top (tank top open of course) but becareful incase you have any fish likely to jump and obviously of electrics near the tank.

When i'm home, i leave lids up,ceiling fan on,windows open, blind down in the kitchen has the sun blazes in and the tanks are okish...

But i went out yesterday,locked it all up,put lids down and by the time i got home 6 hours later my main tank had shot up to 27 (set at 25) fry & pygmy tank had rose from 23 to 27 so not good.
My kitchen is south facing so obviously gets hotter than the front of the house.

Having mainly cories i'm very worried it may affect them...

So having closed doors etc doesn't work,even overnight with windows open the tank went up to 26.3.

It's very accurate and displays down the the 00.0°C which in turn allows to you track even minor fluctuations.

Using this thermometer I found that with the curtains and door closed my tank drops 0.4°C when both are open it jumps 0.8°C

I use this in my tanks, I find it to be very accurate and it also has high / low audible alarms that can be set to specific temperatures alarming you to any problems with faulty heaters etc.

Bum my room gets quite warm in summer, I hadnt thought about this. It hasnt changed at the mo but then that might be coz I'm cycling and it's set to 30 degrees anyway.

Right, frozen water bottles I shall remember this. Won't the fish get a shock if they bump into them though?

i use 1 of these in my tank too its brilliant . the heat isnt so much of a problem for me these days as my tank is set up for discus so its kept at 30 degrees anyway. biggest rise i have had in the hot weather is 1 degree which isnt really anything to panic about. but if you do get too big a rise then simply do a small waterchange ,which will lower the temp ,
