hi is there such thing as a temperate algae eater???
i'd like something relatively hardy that is quite small and can live in a tank with apple snails and variatus platys. it is a 90 litre tank. it's a new tank so i'm mainly listing things i'm going to get (it currently only contains 3 v. platys). i'll do weekly water changes of 25% - 30% and have a Shark ADV 600 internal power filter.
Heres a link to my filter:

thanks.

edit: sorry i posted it twice
oh and i know catfish are tropical - i'd like something simalar

you could maybe get a bristle nose plec? they are tropical but I had a couple in a tank that was room temp and they seemed quite at home.

If your tank doesn't go below 22°C/71°F, you might be alright with a BN, but your tank's on the very edge of big enough, IMO, so you'll need to keep up the water changes, without fail.

I have a very juvenile long finned bristlenose in my 3ft. I have a 200w heater in it and keep it at over 22 degrees Celsius. It seems very happy in their, I see out and about during the day. I've hardly seen the heater on at all these past few months. Mind you that will change very rapidly during Autum + Winter. Keep it to that temp and it should be pretty decent.

The Bristlenose's are quite varied. You can easily get Albino, Gold and the long finned/veil tailed BN's and they're not too expensive compared to other Pleco's. And of course the BN's don't really grow much more than 5 inches tops so one will not outgrow your tank.
On the other hand though what's recommended for Bristlenoses is that no more than two should be in a 3ft tank. Preferably a male and female as the males are more tolerant of females in their territory. My Dad had two males in a 2.5ft tank. It was fine when they were young but he has had to separate them as they were both getting very territorial with each other.

A goldspot Pleco is another alternative although it will quickly outgrow your tank. My Sis had one at 2-3 inches, she's only had it a few months, no more than six and it has easily doubled in size!! Lovely looking though! Needless to say it's in her 4ft tank now. It won't be that long before it'll be in my 400 Litre 5ft I reckon. Goldspots can get between 10-14" though.

One fish you may wish to consider is actually a Hillstream Loach if you are keeping a relatively cool tank. They are often advertised as Chinese Butterfly Pleco's or Hong Kong Pleco's but they are not Pleco's. They are loaches but they are algae eaters. They only grow to about 3" too but they're temp range is 20-23.8C
Some say they are very sensitive, especially to PH but they are an alternative worth further investigation and won't take up too much room in your tank.
