I bought it around Christmas. I'll try contacting the manufacturerSounds defective to me.When did u buy it? If amazon wont refund u, contact the manufacturer and i bet they will send u a new one.
With the heater off the tank stays at 72. Is that ok for a week until I can get a new one?return the heater and get a replacement. the one you have is faulty and will possibly cook the fish.
Is it fine for my rummynose?72F is fine for most fish except discus and uarus.
Would it be fine long term? Lol it would be nice to not have to buy a heater. I will thoIt's fine for the rummynose, they won't like it but it won't kill them.
Fish don't live in water with the same temperature all year round. They have to deal with daily, monthly and yearly seasonal fluctuations.
When it rains during the wet season, the water temperature can drop significantly and stay cool for weeks. In the hot dry season the water can go above 30C for months at a time.
Yes I do have a thermometer. I have a glass one in the tank and a stick on one on the glass. They both read the same200 watts isnt normally enough for a 55 gallon so it will always be on trying to keep up.
Do you have a thermometer in the water. If its at 80 then who knows whats going on with your heater but if its lower then the heater is overcompensating because not enough wattage.
55 gallon generally need 300 to 500 watts
Yes it does. We dont have AC So it gets to about 80 most days in summerIt depends on how long you mean by long term. A month is probably fine, 12 months, probably not.
Does the house temperature go up during summer?
I used to set my heaters on 18C and that is as cold as the water got during winter. In summer it went to 30C+. The fish I kept were fine at those temperatures but in cooler water you don't feed as often and you need to monitor them for fungal infections.
So say in cooler water what feeding schedule would you say? I currently feed once a day with 1-2 fast days a weekIt depends on how long you mean by long term. A month is probably fine, 12 months, probably not.
