Since I DID say that I have succeed in getting the free Windows 10 update extension on my main system I should probably explain how the process went for me.

I initially tried going to my rewards to use the 100 points and then did the settings backup. Both showed no results as to the update extension. Yesterday I went to setting and there was a notice about the extension. Three or four clicks later it was done and the extension active. MAY have hadt to go to Updates under settings but I don't think that was the case.

My second desktop is under a local account but still shows me as logged into my Microsoft account, likely due to my subscription to Office 365, so I will have to see if I need to lose the local account when I do that one. Really does not matter if I have to change the system to a Microsoft pin log in even though the pin log in is less secure as I trust my security. Logging in with a Microsoft pin adds protection to your Microsoft account, not the actual system.

Holy hell, that was a pain.. So I installed Win11 media creation tool onto a USB. No issues. I select it as the boot in BIOS, loads perfectly. I go to delete the partitions of the old C drive and load Win11 into the unallocated space. Win11 installs, but around 86% completion, it fails without a code error or anything suggesting what the issue was.
Not all that sure that the FAT32 caused your failure. Last evening I tried a Rufus set up install flash drive that shows NTFS. I was trying an upgrade install and it failed at the same 86% saying Windows 11 could not be installed and restored my Windows 10 install.

I believe that you had the system removed from accessing the net as did I. Makes me wonder if the latest install media still allows no internet...

pc-gammer or something had an article that ms is closing loopholes in not setting up a ms account. they found the current most effective loophole is to claim your a 10 year old or whatever and then the account will be denied due to privacy rights and the install will continue.

I'm in the process of trying to put Win 11 on my main system again. Since, with past attempts, the final boot ended up with a totally black screen it tends to point to my RX 6700 XT video drivers. I'm currently making a clone of my main after which I will remove any and all drivers/software dealing with my video which will result in Windows applying the generic SVGA drivers. May or may not make a difference but worth a try. ;)

What's weird is that I never had any issues with installing W10 that I can recall. I've done Windows 11 4 times now, and every time I've had something end up not working. I will be doing another W11 install soon on my parents' PC. I will try Rufus this time, and hopefully nothing goes to 💩. The one difference is that PC has older hardware than my main system.

It is called progress; every time they update w11 it gets harder to install.

I MAY have beat the Win 11 install. I've done three restarts so far and, while one failed with an automatic fix it went to a following good boot. I'm not totally proven on this install but it is looking pretty good.

Since I had previously had what was supposed to be a good install but ended in a plain black screen I have always suspected that my video drivers were the fault. I killed everything associated with the video reverting to Windows default and it seems to work. I'm about to try installing my video software to see if things still work. Device Manager shows my actual card but I also want the 'control software'.

I WILL be back!

I have installed all my video drivers and software under Windows 11 and am still booting fine.

I am currently doing a cumulative update for Win 11 while I type this. If it succeeds I will figure that have success but will still leave mt Win 10 clone intact just in case. ;)

Still booting fine to Win 11.

Also, an irritation I had with Win 10 is gone. I run some VERY old games from Win 2000/XP times. They would cause my Taskbar to keep getting larger. No longer seems to happen. :)

what is copilot and how do you remove it?
how do you remove one drive?

Copilot is an intrusive AI that comes with MS Office and Windows. Don't actually think you can remove but you can disable with a registry hack. I use Winaero Tweaker for such things. I also use it to do things like bringing back the full right click context menu in Win 11. If you look at it be careful to click the right link as there are a lot of ads. The proper link is right above "Support us".

One Drive can be removed via Programs and Features in the Control Panel. I find using the Control Panel for killing apps handier than using apps via Settings. If you don't know how to get to the Control Panel just click Start and type in control panel. I pin it to Start.

Glad the install went ok. Remove both from Settings-> App-> Installed Apps. Click the ... next to the name and there is an option to uninstall.

Edit: Ignore the geeks, they will always over complicate it

Nothing wrong with either method. ;) I just prefer Control Panel. Probably due to being used to using it for so long. ;)

Oh, I should add that, if you use Winaero Tweaker to disable Copilot, it will likely already have the check boxes checked. Uncheck, sign out and in then go back to Winaero and check the boxes again. Do the sign out/in again and it will be disabled at least from Office. The icon for it will still be in Edge but not intrusive.

Copilot will not show in the Control Panel's Programs and Features nor will it show under Settings/Apps/Installed Apps. At least, if it does, I can't find it.
