Hi I used to keep uaru about 15 years ago and just about to take the plunge with a tank again. Looking for some youngsters. They are great fish. What are the plants u have in your aquarium I seem to remember the only ones they wouldn't eat were java ferns. By the way my dog does the same thing with the hose pipe in the garden.
Gaz

Oh go for it, I ador mine they are so cheeky and fun, so hard to get hold of though :(. All my plants are silk they ate my java fern!, they pull that silk stuff behind them to bits too lol

I never tried plastic or silk before. They used to love ripping lettuce leaves up. Think I just had a few rock and wood and java in my tank. They do get their own characteristics though

They are really destructive, but I love them, mine like lettuce too and cucumber, corgette, banana (thats messy), broccoli, peas, carrot anything really oh yes and fingers lol

I first had uaru when I was in the forces in Germany they lived off beef heart and spinach minced up and frozen in cubes. They loved it but it was messy

Star4,
Do you find that they are very suseptable to white spot?

I got a group of youngsters a couple of months ago, and have been really struggling to keep them free of w.s.
Every time it goes away, I stop treating, and the w.s comes back a few days later.

Mine have never had ick, are you sure it is ick? (stupid question probably) but I have found urau and chocolate cichlids and occasionally severums are prone to what I call cichlid acne (I dont know what it is never found out). Occasionally they get a white spot, it looks just like a larger ick spot, sometimes just 1 sometimes a few, they last for around 4-7 days and just disappear, these sorts of spots come through the skin not settle on the skin like ick does, try a close look.

If it is ick how are you treating it? Urau will take a higher temperature, put the temp up to 29-30 and treat gravel vaccing like crazy to remove as many spores as possible, also feed garlic laced food, it will help boost their immune system.

Hope this helps
