i only tap lightly once to wake them up for feeding time they really dont mind

That exactly the same for me too. I just tap when food's coming in. No-one taps on my fish tank, friend/relative/etc, but just some things that some of my friends do is what some call "food-tease" the fish. Its when one pretends to put food in the tank when they are not. And all the fish run up thinking there is food. I just think it teases them.

I tap very lightly to draw my bettas attention to any pellet or bloodworm they may have missed. I feed them one piece of food at a time, yet they still miss them sometimes They've gotten the hang of this and usually only one tap or two to direct them to the food is sufficient.

i never do it, and dont let anybody do it to my tank. saves any worry then.
