Tap Water Readings- Are They Ok ?

I don't know which test kit you have but if it says 15 minutes then you have to leave it for exactly that amount of time for it to be accurate. I have a vague recollection of one of the bottled ammonias being very low compared to the claimed percentage, perhaps it's the Homebase one. But if your test kit is in date (and you're making the reading correctly) then we have to assume the ammonia level is not what it says so dose another 4x7ml to get your 5ppm reading.

I'll do that with my next test, it's the JBL master kit, cost me close to £90, everything I'm doing is right to my knowledge so it's just a bit puzzling.

The JBL master kit is a good kit so I'd be suspicious of the claimed ammonia concentration of the Homebase ammonia.

Well I've just done another test according to the book "rinsing the jar in the water numerous times" & "Leaving it for 15 mins" the test now has a reading of something around 2-3ppm definitely not 5ppm but I'm happy to leave it at that until it shows 0 before re-dosing... Seems it was my fault for not leaving it long enough but thanks for all your help, I'll be in touch in the future regarding the tank I'm sure :good:
