after treating the tap water with conditioner (seachem prime, api tap water conditioner, etc), how soon can i add the treated water to my tank?

Immediately. (Assuming the followed the instructions on the bottle properly)

I shake mine up (I use milk jugs) before adding them to my tank just for good measure.

further, how soon can i test water after doing water changes?

thanks guys!

You can test right away. I would recommend waiting a few minutes if you want the most accurate results, because it will give the new/old water a chance to mix. (If you want to test right away, stick the vile down near the bottom of the tank)

thanks.

i performed another 35% WC today w/o vaccuum and adding api quick start for bacteria growth.

i have to be mindful with balancing act between removing (or not) as much ammonia as i can (via vaccumming substrate removing waste, etc) but at the same not to disturb the beneficial bacteria colonies form on the substrate, decors.

current reading:

0.75ppm ammonia
0.25ppm nitrite
temp: 77F
ph: 7.8

numbers don't seem to improve much with the last few WCs.

thanks.

They should improve with the API Quick Start... how many days have you been adding it?
