Tanning From Wood...

my tank has been cycled for about a week. I have not added any fish yet, and have just decided to allow the water temperature to go back to about 24 Celsius.

will the tanned water hurt them?

you could always put some Seachem Purigen in your filter they sell it in little pouches, this stuff cleared my 6 x 2 tank over night! and i had seriously yellow water from all the bog wood.

But as far as I know it doesn't do any harm

Tannins can actually be good for certain fish. Carbon will also remove the staining.

What I would do is remove the wood from the tank and if you have a big enough pot, bring it to the boil, and leave it outside overnight. Do this a couple of times and it shouldn't leak at all. If you don't have a big enough pot you could just put it in some sort of container and pour boiling water over it until it is submersed.

Tannins are good for alot of fish! Over time they will disappear.

Hi, the tannins wont disturb the fish, but it will make the water orangey. I boiled it for 24 hours in total, now mine has been soaking in a bucket for over 2 months and still releasing colour

oh my goodness i think i'll just leave it in then lol if its not doing any harm, then thats the main thing besides it doesnt look that bad just a faint yellowish

yep, just now its a faint yellow, the colour progresses to a deeper shade over time! (with no regular water change)
Just do regular water changes, which you already know and it should be fine!

Are you still adding ammonia to keep the filter bacteria alive?
btw, they're tannins, nothing to do with a suntan, although it is a kind of similar effect
