Hi all ,, i have read through all the topics on oscars but have a question that i cant seem to find a answer to .

I have had my new oscars maybe 1 month now,, i have a good size tank with plenty of room etc,, i clean the tank of crap from bottom etc with a suction pump but i want to get a bottom feeder to clean up the bottom like in my other tropical tank .

i went to my local shop and they told me corys but they are smaller then my oscars and i know thats a bad idea , they recommended this catfish ,, i cant remember its name it was about the same size as my oscars and looked like it could hold its own in trouble,, but i wanted to research more into it before i buy,, so just to ask here if any one can recommend a good bottom feeder to go with the oscars

my oscars are about 3 and half inches long at mo.

Thanks for any advice anyone can give me :)

Steve

Depending on tank size an armoured plec should be okay, check out aquarists-classified, loads of plec's need re-homing on there

answered this before and you still havent stated the size of the tank.

A "good size" doesnt mean diddly squat what seems to you as a "good size" could be completely in-adequate for even the Oscar.

A little more info and we could help in more detail

Dont mean to sound harsh but we have alot of people come on here asking similar uestions and it ends up they have a 20G tank with 3 Oscars in plus goldfish blah blah

lets hope its not a case that he dosent like the advice,so wont reply, we have the fishes best interest at heart after all :)
im sure we`ll turn him into an oscar fanatic in no time tho ;)

Hi all ,, thanks for the reply's,, i have just got back from work thats why i havnt replied sooner,, sorry , and sorry there are 2 threads on this i thought my 1st post didnt accept as i couldn't find it so i posted on the general forum ,,

ok well my tank is

Height : 18 inches
Width : 33 inches
Depth : 15
and is on the calculator, 38 . 5 us gallons,, not sure what that is in litres but you guys are the experts :)

I have 2 filters either end as the place i bought them told me to run 2 they are Aqua flow 200

but i do have a aleas external filter unit that i was thinking of hooking it upto as people tell me would be better

Steve

Tank is too small for even one oscar unfortunately

you really should take them back to your LFS or get a tank minimum 55G for one 75G for 2 but ideally 90G for two And external canister filter(s) that run 5x the tank volume per hr minimum

I am afraid that your tank is not big enough for even one Oscar. You will need at least a 55gallon tank, just for one. Have you ever seen how big Oscars become?

How many oscars do you have?

Also, you may have already gathered from reading that your 38 us gal tank is actually too small for even 1 for more than a couple of months.

Oscars grow very rapidly when young.

yeah as i just been reading its far to small , i will return them to the place i bought them in morning i think. its unfair on them.

Thanks for all the answers guys :)
