Well, I wanted to have 5 USD cats to go along with my shoal (or school?) of congo tetras and a pair of kribs. However, I've decided otherwise as I've not had good luck with the USD cats. (I bought the only 3 in the store and 2 died and the one that's left is now infected with ich and has infected others -- my bad, though, because I do not have a quarantine tank. BUT, I am working on that and will have one up and running very soon!)

So, looking ahead now and once the tank is safe, I want to add more fish. Any suggestions for what would go well with congos & kribs?? (Also have a plec in there.) I really do not want any more cats or plecs for this tank.

BTW - the tank is a 55 gallon and there are 9 congos, 2 kribs and 1 plec. (and 1 USD cat.)

I am disappointed that the USD cats did not work out as I know that I helped suggest them. It could be that you just got a bad batch from your your LFS.

What about some rainbow fish? There are many types and they can be quite colorful as well.

Still want to see pictures of that awesome shoal of Congos.

gwlee7-- you are right -- I believe they were a bad batch. I really like this particular lfs -- but getting more concerned as time goes on. I tested their water recently and the nitrate was really high (bottom of the color chart). Is that normal for fish stores? Plus it seems I'm finding more and more dead fish in their tanks. It's too bad because the employees are very decent folks. I really should have quarantined them first. I hadn't had any problems with the other 20 or so fish I purchased from them, so.....Well, certainly learned a good lesson.

The hard thing is after you have a bad experience with a particular fish, it's difficult to try it again. The one USD cat left is a cute little guy and I hope he survives. Maybe I will setup another tank (small) and find some buddies for him and give them another try.

I'm working on the pics of the congos! I just got a new digi camera and tripod! :)

The rainbowfish is a good suggestion. They are schooling fish, so make sure to get 5-6 in a good m:f ratio or they can turn from peaceful to not so peaceful!
