Getting my first Bolivian Ram on Friday and wondering where to keep him. Choice of
1.CICHLID TANK - Presumably not as convicts and jewels would kill him instantly
2.COMMUNITY -Mollies, swords and angels should be OK but will ram attack guppies?
3.CORY TANK with 10 assorted corries and 4 paradise fish. Sandy bottom.Best choice?

Would ram get on with corries and paradise fish who are from a gentle strain that is not at all aggressive?

ive had 6 rams with 5 corys they never bothered each other in the slightest

theyre a peaceful fish only showing aggression to other rams and only towards other fish when spawning (chasing them away only). though they do occasionally push corydoras around when theres food but its not serious and not all rams do that

You can keep them in tanks 2 or 3, but the cichlid tank is a bad idea.

I would choose based on which has the most decorations and plants, because Rams really love that kind of setup.

I keep my pair of Rams with 6 kuhli loaches and 10 hengel rasboras, and in this tank about 6 guppy fry ranging from 1/4" to 1/2", so I would not worry too much about them. Rams really do keep to their own. Since most of their cool behaviour is social you may consider getting him a female.

Just got my ram tonight and put him in with corries and paradise fish, So far ram is hanging round bottom of tank and not bothering anyone. It's just white with smudgy black markings though and seems to have lost the red coloration in the photo when it was advertised.Could this be due to stress of netting, moving, etc?

The stress will certainly do that but colour should come back quickly. Keep in mind much of their best colour is when they display, but that goes back to the whole keeping a pair part of that response - a male will be eager to display his best with a female around to impress. Also the lighting of the tank makes a difference to the colour and bulbs may have been used at the store to enhance their colours, maybe.

Yeah stress makes them drab but once they settle in colors return to normal. Also when I first turn my lights on in the AM they are colorless. Give him a week to settle in. And I second that tank decor makes a difference. I had my rams in a tank with black stand and black background and the colors where washed out. Just moved them to my tank with natural color sand and they are stunning. Good luck
