Getting my first Bolivian Ram on Friday and wondering where to keep him. Choice of
1.CICHLID TANK - Presumably not as convicts and jewels would kill him instantly
2.COMMUNITY -Mollies, swords and angels should be OK but will ram attack guppies?
3.CORY TANK with 10 assorted corries and 4 paradise fish. Sandy bottom.Best choice?

Would ram get on with corries and paradise fish who are from a gentle strain that is not at all aggressive?

Other south american fish such as tetras and corys are good but there are plently of fish to choose from as bolivian rams can be kept in lower temperatures and are a bit more hardier than other dwarf cichlids. As well as being good community fish. I guess you were meant to put what sort of fish you like but looks like you've made some sort of error ;)

Thanks Simon for quick reply. PC crashed as I was posting, please see post above this for details of my tank choices

I'd say a definite no to the first tank, but the other two are possibilities. Down to individual personality, but some Rams can be nippy which isn't good with Angels. I'd try both of the other tanks, and see which one he gets on best in :)

Didn't know rams could be nippy.
If he's nippy the paradise fish would be even worse tankmates than angels as they have betta type fine (close relatives)...and I have fancy male guppies in community tank. Would ram be OK with adult 3 spot gourami? he could go in gourami tank but there is a dwarf stunted common plec in there. I'm not sure if ram can cope with plec poo as they are meant to be fussy about water quality, right?

I've had three Rams and only one has been nippy, so it does depend on the fish. My current Ram was known to nip my GT when they were still in the same tank, so quite a fiesty little fellow
I think as you have the luxury of different tanks, you could try it in the other two tanks and see what happens. I think I just happened to buy an especially naughty one, but in general they aren't a nippy fish. Just something to watch out for :good:
