my brother has a 15 gallon bowfront (sand & planted with bogwood hiding places)
with 1 vicious little German Blue Ram, named Sid Vicious, who has so far wiped all but 2 of his 10 neon tetra tankmates, and 3 other German Blue Rams (on seperate occasions, early attempts to give him female companionship, he was having NONE of it).

the only tankmates that don't care about him are 3 fat albino corys, who are the same size as him anyway and just bulldoze him out the way if he tries to start.

but now he's cut down the neons to 2, is there anything around 1"-2" that could withstand this little bugger (and act as guard fish to the neons haha). would black neon tetras work or suffer the same fate?

hmm, I think black neon tetras are a bit more sturdy than regular neon tetras, but might not be able to withstand an aggressive fish. Perhaps you should move to semi-aggressive fish, but then you would need to take out the rest of the tetras so they don't get beat up more.

Tiger barbs should hold up fine and I don't think they would bother your catfish. However, I think they like to be in groups of 5+. Even if you got rid of your neons, it would be a tight squeeze fitting a bunch of tiger barbs in your 15 gallon tank with corys and the blue ram too. I would hate for your ram to die do to less then optimal water conditions from overstocking.
