Tankmate Suggestions Please

Well, I think I have room for more in my 215L tank. I will be moving on one firemouth as the bigger one is telling me that the smaller one is not a female! My 6 rainbowfishes are staying for sure. My liver catfish will have to stay for now.

I am thinking of 1 koi angelfish, plus a shoal of something, and 6 corys as bottom cleaners/feeders. Or maybe 3 koi angels plus corys, and move one of the Koi to the other tank when a pair is formed. Hmmm...

As for my smaller tank I will have to move the tiger barbs on as they don't like my smaller tank and they are not too keen on the Honey Gouramis either. Again I am thinking I might be able to squeeze one Koi Angelfish in there, and add a few more Honey Gouramis or a small shoal of something. If I can't fit an angelfish in there then maybe 6 chinese barbs and 6 cherry barbs, 4 more honey gouramis to join my 3-lined corys. Any other suggestions welcomed.

3 angels is a very bad idea, two will pair up and abuse the third. I would go for a harem of dwarf cichlids such as Apisto. cacatuoides instead and more rainbows.

That's the thing. If my 620 is tall enough for 1, then the odd one out can go there.

I thought Apistogamma are acidic fishes?

If you could try to lower your ph slightly, what about considering the Red Breasted Acara? I think they look brill!

That's the thing. If my 620 is tall enough for 1, then the odd one out can go there.

Given that I think the 980 is not long enough to give an adult angel the swimming space it should have for happy, long term life, how do you think one would fare in a tank which is barely big enough for turning around in?

Oh right. I thought it was the height that's the problem, not length.

I wouldn't want to consider any mid/large cichlids as I already have the firemouth in the big one. Thanks.

It is both: if the tank is not tall enough, the fish is always swimming on it's side or having the fins bent back, which is a bit like that it is walking around in a room with a ceiling which is too low. The length matters because the fish needs to still be able to move.. how would you like spending your whole life in a room where you could take two steps in either direction and no more than that? I do believe that fish need *some* swimming room in the same way that dogs need to be taken out for walks. I found that without the ability to "exercise", fish become stunted and have more health problems.

Laetacara dorsigera is a larger dwarf cichlid, it would do well in the 980. If you want cichlids for the 620, I would recommend at most a pair of Apistogramma.
