Hi there,

I'm thinking about having a Juwel 190ltr Trigon tank upstairs. I'm just abit concerned if it is too heavy foor our floorboards? I've calculated that it's about 30 stone, and the house is relatively new. Should i be worried?

Any advice?

Thanks.

Jonno.

Had a similar concern myself, the view I got from a surveyor I know was that on a new house it should be fine however if you want to be sure place a sturdy piece of wood under the tank to distribute the weight.

my uncle has a juwel 240 litre downstairs in his house and it is perfectly fine although im not sure about upstairs 30 stone i would think would be ok so long as you had it against a wall though wait until a few more people give their advice.

30 stone is the weight of the water. (190l) Don't forget to add the weights of.........

The tank. Stand. Gravel.

I would say you would be ok. I am thinking about putting a 200 litre upstairs myself.

Try and place it so that it sits over as many joists as possible, so all the weight isn't on one joist.

Say the total weight with everything was 40 stone you could always get 3 o 4 people to stand where you plan to place the tank and if the floor doesn't fall through then in theory you should be fine!

Can you make sure you use a video camera if you do that, you might get the money for repairs from "You've Been Framed..". :hyper:

well i think of it like this.......normal sized baths usally have a capicity of around 400 litres or more..right? so if you have a bathroom upstairs like me im sure the floorboards were build to withstand the weight :)

I plan to place mine near a load bearing wall, where the joists run into it, just to be on the safe side.

I don't think you will have any problems with a 190L.

wow thanks for the extensive answers, i'm happy it should be fine now, thanks for the reassurance :good:
