I got my tank off ebay - but it didnt come with a stand. I have read up about it needs to cover the entire width, and dept of the tank, so I am using the below (the radiator in the background is not on at all so will have not effect on the water temp)
But Someone has said to be that this unit may collapse under the weight of the water as the ends of the tank are not fully supported by the unit - is this true?

I would express a little more concern using a stand in the picture above... it doesn't look as if it has the supports in the required places. If you are in doubt though, take it out the back and stand on it. You could always 'build' yourself a stand with blocks and concrete, covering the whole thing with plywood (a friend used an old cabinet in a free ad paper, took it apart and screwed it the individual pieces to the outside of his block work).

Terry.

That stand doesnt look very strong

thanks for that - good thing I checked before Filling it up with over 200 litres of water and watching the unit fall apart :-(

Be carefull with that stand.I did something like that in my first 60 litre tank and a week after the wood was curved almost to breaking point i had to remove the tank in order not to break.
The fact is that stand has four suporting colummns but the entire weight of the tank will be suported by the two in the middle.
Don't take chances better safe than sorry.

With the water, gravel or sand, decorations, fish and all that..... It would probably definetly fall apart :-(

Now goin to try and find something that will support it, what do I need to look out for support wise? Obviously needs to cover the entire width and depth of tank, but what about supports? If I can avoid using building blocks and cement great

Using that cabinet will probably lead to the horrifying thought of a side-ways collapse due to all the weight being on the offset 'centre' supports (they don't look exactly in the middle).

Cabinet looks as good as any other standard aquarium unit TBH
