hi folks,
just stuck up a hello message on the newbie section, but here's my real first one

i have just recently started up a 4ft tank, dunno what that is in litres, must be around 150 liters or soemthing like that, anyway, i am going be starting to add fish real soon and was wondering what to add, here is a sample of what i thought of adding, can you tell me your thought on this please

gourami's- moonlights, pearl's, golden's, opaline,
say 6 in total

tetra's- blind cave, serpae, red eye, buenos aires, congo, rummy nose, bleeding hearts, dunno how mnay as yet

danio'sgiants, pearl, leopards,

catsalgae eater, plec, cory's, columbian shark, RTBS, pictus, shovel nose

loachesclown,s, khuli, blue,s pakistani,

others bumblebee goby's, archer fish, hatchet fish, killifish, rainbow fish, scissortials, swordtails, platys, and maybe a puffer

right so whats yout ake on all of ta, not saying i will get them ALL but thats the types i will be on the look out for, anyone got any sway on pro's and cons' of any of these fish???, cheers

scott

ps- how long would you let you tank sit for up and running, till you add any fish?

if you can post your tank measurements it will help so we can know how many will fit.

I can tell you right now if you get a pictus or a shovelnose, you can forget about any smaller sized fish. Especially with the shovelnose, my brother has one and that thing will eat anything it even thinks it can get in it's mouth, which ended up being all my brother's tetras, some feeder goldfish, and a dwarf gourami.

my tank is 48" long, 18" high, 15" deep bluefire

ninja smurf, thanks for the info on the shovelnose, might wait till i get another tank
to get one of those, with bigger fish, cheers

scott

tetra's- blind cave these fish become very, very aggressive and will tear the fins of all other fish IME

danio'sgiants, pearl, leopards, Good choice, but remember the giants will grow to 15.2cm and need to be in a group of 5 at the least.

loachesclown. need to be in groups of 5 at least and if you have giant danios then you do not have room for clowns.

others bumblebee goby's,will be food for giant danios and or clown loaches archer fish, need an open topped tank so can not go with danios as they need an enclosed tank due to the jumping ability. hatchet fish, may not like the speed of danios. killifish, depends on what species of killie, they may not be a community compatible fish. rainbow fish, scissortials, swordtails, platys, and maybe a puffer. Puffers will need a brackish set up as they mature and should be in a species only tank.

ps- how long would you let you tank sit for up and running, till you add any fish? You need to cycle the tank first, this depends on wether you are doing a fish, or fishless cycle.
