Hi,

Whilst my tank is cycling ive been looking around for fish to stock it with.. So far ive decided on the following:

5 x Zebra Danio's
2 x Angel Fish
1 x BN Pleco

what other fish would be ok to stock with the above and what would be the maximum that i could stock?

im also open to suggestions on what to stock but the 2 Angel fish need to be included as the kids have picked these..

The tank is the Juwel Rio 180 with the standard filter with the 600 l/ph power head.

Cheers

I have the same tank as you with the same filter. There is a stocking calculator somewhere which takes into consideration the fish types, size of tank and your filter. I found the juwel standard filter is severely underpowered for that tank. I ended up buying a tetratec ex1200 and its 100% better. Maybe someone will popup with the link for this calculator?

have you seen this programme...

the programme isn't 100% correct, but is a good start.

I have the Juwel tri 190 and had the same powerhead, i upgraded the powerhead (if you don't want an external). It supplies a lot better filtration.

I will possibly change filters if the internal one has problems.. It seems ok so far.. Is the filter box easy to remove from the tank?

Yeah, i just pulled mine off. They come siliconed on, pulled it off and took a stanley blade to the silicone, comes off easy with a blade. Its a nightmare to try and get off if you dont use a blade.

I started to use the internal one for a fishless cycle; till i found out that it is actually quite terrible and once the fish would have been in i would have been forever doing water changes.

ive been looking around again for fish, we have agreed on the following

5 x German Blue Ram
5 x Zebra Danio
5 x Tiger Barb
1 x BN Pleco

would these be ok in the Rio 180?

Cheers

I don't know, would the tiger barbs terrorize everybody else or would 5 be enough that they would keep each other busy? I am just always so wary of tiger barbs...

well according to this site (sorry if links are not allowed) it does seem that they will be ok together.

You're going to have to forget about the german blue rams, their temperature requirements are far out of the range that the other fish would be comfortable, Bolivian rams would be fine.

It is good to consider the rules about linking to other sites DD2510, but we allow many links here, just not links to other fish forums.
I always try to avoid tiger barbs because most of the peaceful fish that I keep are nothing but victims in a tank full of tiger barbs. I always figure that they have earned their common name along with the various sharks like red tailed sharks.
