I'm getting a 7 gallon cube (12x12x12 inches) for my Betta, but I'm having trouble finding an aquarium stand. I don't want it to be a rectangle (I think that would off weird with a cube tank) and I really want some sort of shelving or drawers under it. I was thinking a file cabinets of sorts, but I'm not sure if it can support that much weight. If you have any stands that you use or that could work for me, it would be much appreciated!

Thanks!!

Anytime you think of aquarium stands think “more than sturdy” . Water weighs eight pounds per gallon and figure higher for a set up aquarium - say twelve pounds per gallon to factor in the sand / gravel , decorations and lights and filters and heaters . Next visualize that your aquarium shouldn’t be perched too high and all the weight make a top heavy thing ready to topple at the slightest movement . Any bedroom dresser or night stand is perfectly suited for aquariums up to a twenty gallon if they are real wood and not particle board . Real hardwood is denser and stronger while particle board is kinda iffy in my opinion . Particle board also gets weak when wet just as if it were cardboard . Go to a used furniture store and look around and you will find something to your liking .

Likely a typical metal file cabinet for a tank that size would be fine ( just remember if you are using it as a file cabinet, a remote chance of a leaking aquarium, could ruin any document filed )

I might be inclined to cut a board the size of the file cabinet top, to help spread the weight out, if you were wanting to center it on the top, & using a modern economy metal; file cabinet

Another issue with using a filing cabinet. If you use the drawers, that sound will scare the fish and cause them stress.

Good point. I always spill water when I'm doing maintenance/water changes so it might not be the best idea. Plus the sounds of the drawers might scare him.

Night stands would look nice, and I would not have to worry about it not being strong enough. I will definitely see if I can find one made out of real wood.
