Hi All,

Just wanted peoples 2 cents on what style of tank you think is best - Rectangle / Square or Bow Fronted ?

I was told that Bow Fronted ones can look "odd" when looking into them, unfortunatly my lfs doesnt have any of the bigger tanks im looking at setup, they are all empty so its hard to imagine what they would be like all planted etc.

Has anyone also used the structured backgrounds that you stick with silicone to the back of the tank ? wondered what they look like once the tank is established - again, at my lfs they have the backgrounds in the big tanks, but thats it - not setup.

Cheers All,

Craig

#Edit - Sorry forgot to say the only structured background my lfs stock is the Juwel stuff, looks a bit like black rock with horizontal / vertical (depends what way u put it up) lines which dont match up very well from one piece to another - is there any better stuff available online?

Thanks.

Craig

i poersonally like rectangle glass tanks because bow fronts to disort the image of a tank slightly and for the silcon backgrounds i am not fond of. the look fake or at least the ones i have seen. and if i diddnt want it anymore it would be hard to take off.

I personally prefer bow front tanks because I think that they give the tank an overall larger look. You should try looking on ebay for a background, they have some really nice ones at good prices too!

Our 28gal is a bowfront and I can't stand it. The bowfront causes too much distortion imo.
I also don't like hex's either although we have 2. Yes they save alot of space, but I dunno.. I just don't like them that much.

So rectangle all the way for me. It's plain but gives you a nice clean nondistorted viewing area to watch your fish.

I too prefer rectangle/square tanks. Just seems to be a more normal tank in my opinion. I dont like using backgrounds. Could use a piece of coloured cardboard?

I prefer rectangle above square because they give more swimming space. And rectangle above bowfront because I feel bowfront distorts the view.

rectangle, keep it simple and clear views. :)

I prefer rectangle but considered having a complete round one and then i saw one full and it was hard to watch as the distortion going on was wierd on the eye.
The backgrounds are fine - there are some well nice ones now - tree roots , rock work etc.. check out Ebay , Juwel or most online aquatic shops

i love my corner tank looks wise, however with aggressive fish the shape has caused problems. i just don't think it's ideal for what i keep in it (they've plenty of space and enough gallonage of water, just limits what companions oscar can have) but it's a lovely tank overall, I'd like to do a nice community tank in it.

I just started the hobby and bought a hex. Nice wee tank but it does distort te image a good bit. But sure...keeps ya occupied goin round the thing trying to get it lined up lol

Next tank will be a bow front or a corner tank

hi
i've got a large bow fronted tank,
it can sometimes give a distorted look, depending on how
you look at it,but i find that it is only when i get up really close,
however it still looks nice.
my little tank is a rectangle one,
so i have the best of both.

Cylindrical! It'd be much more of a challenge to decroate a tank so it looks great from any angle of view! You wouldn't put one of these against a wall. You'd miss half the view!

I once had a neighbor who had a spherical fish tank. It was set inside a wall. The thing was over 50 gallons.
