hay all

well my tank is up and running but i now fancy a change inside as i think my tank just looks like a everyday tank and nothing to special or nice.

i got white and brown gravel, sunken ship, few plants and bogwood,., but fancy a change

im after a few imiages off some other tanks that look nice set up.

im fed up off 100% gravel floor, so some diffrents shots wil be ok, like pebble bottom, sand, ect also how easy is it to clean.

sand is easy to clean, but youll have to do it frequently without bottom dwellers/snails and have to stir it once a month to get gas out, and with the BDs then it should need less cleaning but the stirring still needs to take place as the BDs dont stir the bottom of the sand, just the top to keep the poo and stuff floating to the filters.

my tank imo looks OK but would completedly be disintegrated by critics lol. 2 statues and 1 roman/greek ruin and 3 (6) full grown amazon swords that have been nibbled on

Well the gas that does form: H2S (hydrogen sulphide, one of the most toxic substances on earth) is deemed harmless when it comes into contact with oxygen that is present in water:

H2S+2H20 -> SO2+3H2 (the SO2 will smell like rotten eggs.)

I stir mine a little every ttime i change the water, just so the gas does come out at little intervals instead of stinking the room out

yes, harmless, no need to disturb it, bottom dwellers shouldn't disturb too much of it, because they only use the top 1-2cm of substrate.

I have a sand bottom and I don't bother stirring it up, It's been running for almost 2 years now and no stinky smell so far...lol...I used to syphon the poo with the small tube of the python, but I have a few fish fatality with it( fish getting suck into the tube) so I stop using the small tube and just drain water every WC.....Here's a pic of my set up...

nice, how large? considering theres a clown loach in there ill assume around... 75+?

and just to confirm the BDs only stir the top few cms to get the debris into the filter instead of having it sitting on the bottom correct?

120 gallon 4ft tank.....they do stir up a few cm's, but for some reason I don't see a lot of feces lying around the sand. I barely syphon the sand anymore I just drain water most of the time...no problems so far and my nitrates don't exceed 20 ppm.....
