im having a spot of bother with one of my tanks (my 28L one), they seems to be bits of white slime, brown stain marks on the plastic plants & on the plastic barrel and theres also what looks like little furry things sort of like a thin maggot body with fur coming off them ive never seen anything like this before. the tanks been running for over 6 month and its only got 4 neons in as they were eating the fins on my other fish in my bigger tank so i put them in there.

also ive noticed in my 68L tank one of my black neons has a bit of white spot ive got some interpet anti-white spot treatment for it but i was just wondering is it safe to use this with catfish and plecos in the tank also my filter has carbon in it so do i just take the filter cartridge out for a while so it doesnt damage that?

I'd just go in there and clean the decorations and fake plants and anything else - get it all mussed up right before you do your weekly water change and then move your gravel cleaner all around in attemp to catch as many large objects as possible in the water that is siphoning out.

Are you using good liquid-based tests on a frequent basis? Hopefully your monitoring both ammonia and nitrites?

Yeah, the whiespot treatment should work fine providing you've caught it early.
Take waterdrops advice on keeping eye on levels.
Maintenance is high the smaller the tank, so try and get into a routine on water changes and ornament cleaning. Just look after the tank in general.

Hope this helps

thanx for the help guys, yeh ive got my little routine for checking the levels and everything. Just i think i might be vacuuming my bigger tank to much, ive got sand as the substrate and it shows alot of the poops so after a few days of hoovering the sand its dirty again so im hoovering it almost every week really, am i paronied and hoovering too much or is it ok to leave the poo around for 7-14 days like when the books say you should be cleaning your tank.

Just a quick question about the whitespot and my filter cartridge, will the filter pump be ok running without the cartridge in it?

There is nothing wrong with cleaning the substrate every week with your water change. It keeps things looking nice and that's important for most of us too.
