I was lloking at african cichlids and came across the demasoni cichlid. Im wondering if it can hold its ground against a female convict, or will it just beat her up. From what I can tell form research fom google the ph wouldnt be a problem. Any suggestions? I probaly cant find one anyway just want to answer the qquestion in whick lays in my mind.

the main problem is one of diet, mbuna (of which the demasoni is one) have to eat low a protein diet with mainly vegetable content, whereas the convict requires a more meaty based diet with higher protein.

in answer to your other question, the demasoni would tear the convict apart.

I agree with aberdeen.

Also just because two cichlids are both aggressive doesn't mean they are compatible - the new world and african behaviors are quite different. Convicts are actually very mild fish untill they breed, when they become completely aggressive. Demasoni are always aggressive.

Do yourself (and the fish) a favour and stick to either new world or african.

Just a question, anyways Ill stick to new worlds in my 20 galllon and africans in my 75 gallon when ever I get it.
