Hey guys,
I have a 65L(17G) Tank. It has 2x11W PL lamps. Do you think its good enough? Also i was thinking does it have to be PL lamps or can i install neon blue lights? haha its a crazy question but i was just wondering.
Also do u think i could fit a Pitbull Pleco in my tank? If not what other kind of alge eater could i put in?
2x11 w lights sound ok so long as your not turning the tank into a planted tank.
what are you looking to use neon blue light for ??? the general use is for moonlight affect,. Most people use Neon Blue cold cathodes as "moonlighting" for night time only as it replicates late night and sleeping time for fish but still allowed you to see a little of whats going on inside the tank, Don't get confused with UV light strips that look blue. you don't want to be putting these in the tank.
if your looking for algea eaters the best type are Otto's (Otocinclus affinus) they're great for small tanks as they only get to 1 to 2 inches, and love to eat algae, and have great personalities. there are not many "true" algea eaters out there. and It all does depend on the algae you have, ottos will happily at the brown hair type algae that is common in a new tank and will also have a little munch on the dreaded green algae, most other algae eaters won touch this. u may need to substitute with some algae wafers. but i have had no probs so far. If you are getting ottos i would recommend 5/6 of them as they are a community shoaling fish and when you buy them make sure you get the fattest roundest ottos the lfs has, a fat Otto is a happy Otto, it shows that there healthy and feeding well which is what you want. Otto's also often need a stable mature tank, and are not a hardy fish when it comes to fluctuations.
