Hi

the tank that i have came with a 40W light it seems really bright, so thinking of changing it what sort Watt lighting strips do you guys have in your tank.

Thanks

Tony

The wattage of fluorescent tubes is matched to the ballast/starter device that's built into the fixture. Unlike incandescent bulbs you can't just mix and match.

How many US gallons (there's a converter tool in the aquarium calculator up top if you're in UK) is your tank volume. Most beginners aim for something around the one-watt-per-gallon range unless they are interested in becoming a planted tank hobbyist with additional equipment.

The tank is 25USG, the tank is a Elite 95 it looks like you should be able to change the strip in there.

1-1.5 watt per gallon for low light beginner plants. Any more and you're going to start having algae problems unless you add more plants and use CO2. Keep the light on for about 8-12 hours a day.
