55 gallon...............looking for large cichlid with personality. iv been told that this tank is to small for an oscar (devistated) or something a bit more ornimental.if possible has any1 got any pics? thanks
i see no intrest in these fish.sorry. i know people who keep these fish. nice fish but to placid.
do tou know anything about cichlasoma synspilus (red head cichlid)
thanks
the veja synspillus will get way way too big for a 55. the GT nice fish not really imo all that its cracked up to be. but then again it also depends on how big your wallet is and the kind of work you are willing to put into it.
as for the GT their agression is over rated. they aren't piscivorious monsters that you think that they are. they are agressive yes. but more often than not will cower when something as simple as an algae scraper enters the tank.
my JD hits my hand all the time when I feed him ( the price you pay for teaching your fish to eat from your hand) its more of a shock than pain. and he has never drawn blood. now I can't say that about all of my fish there are actually 3 fish that I won't hand feed. my midas and my Jags.
well i never thought that that the synspillum reached that length. i heared that they will stop growning when they breed,,,is this true...i dont think so....
your assumption about growth after they reach breeding size would be correct. very often fish will reach a breeding size and it is often less than half of their adult size. an example of this would be my female Jags.
even at a size of appox. 6 inches they aren't even close to their adult size yet they lay eggs every 2 weeks.
huh do they stop growing when bred or not. 60 gallon synspillum? + green terror? already got synspillum in smaller setup. could get another in 60 galon and breed to stop growing or not?
