does anyone know how to work out the number of gallons in a tank from its dimentions? -_-

thanks. Very helpful.i found that my tank really isnt a 55 gallon but a 60...youve made my day. but is there a method i can just do on a calculator or in my head...? just curious .

Hi. To find the volume of a tank you need to multiply the length x width x height. I don't know whether you prefer inches or centimeters. The dimensions of my tank are 48"x12"x21". Multiply that out and you get 12096 cubic inches. To get that into a more usefull number you'll have to convert cubic inches into gallons or liters. I know that there are 231 cubic inches in a US gallon. So 12096 divided by 231 equals 52.3636 US gallons. You just need to know the conversion factors for the units you use. Hope that helps.

If you need the volume for medication... you will need to subtract any decorations and substrate (gravel etc)

If you want it in imperial gallons, multiply the length in feet x width in feet x the height in feet, then multiply this figure by 6.25.
