I have found several nice pieces of river glass on my walks. Most are green but there are the odd brown, clear and other colored pieces. If I sterilize them would they be safe to put in my tank?

I'm not exactly an expert Madmom, but I would say yes.I know you can do a vinager test on rocks to see if they will chage PH values;I assume the test would work on glass as well. The idea is that if there is no reaction from vinager it will not alter PH;If it fizzes, then it will change the PH.Don't know if there are other ways to test but I would imagine if you sterelize it and it doesn't react to vinager, then it will be OK.HTH :good:

I would agree with Kaz that it is safe to use. Assuming you clean them well and boil them. My only concern would be the sharp edges - fish have a tendency to get a little kamikazied out for no reason and could hurt themselves if you aren't careful how you set the tank up. Other than that, I don't see a problem!

I agree.

Thanks guys. No sharp edges. They are totally smooth and rounded. Mother Nature took care of the edges on them. Gotta love those fishermen though. They finish their beers and just chuck the bottles. Ugh.
