I finished the 5 gal's furnishing recently. I have a piece of bog wood that has made a nice cave; planted it with java moss + fern, and a single anubias nana. Used glossostigma to create a carpet, and decorated the back w/ rotallia. Similar to a display tank at the local IFs that looks just incredible.

Sounds awesome! Did you know how you were going to design it before you added it all or just move it round till you liked it...

Well, I knew I was going to use bog wood, and I knew I was going to have cories, so when I was picking out bog wood I looked especially for something with a nice cave.

Rotallia is a plant I've seen used in a lot of cool ways, so I knew it was something I wanted.

J. Moss + Fern, and anubias go with the choice to use bog wood

I like carpet, and glossostigma was the first carpet plant I've seen in shop for a while; so I went with it.

Choosing furnishings for specific plants and fish, and then choosing particular plants for certain fish is always a good place to start off in tank design.

Haha Thats like me with my tank at the moment but i think i fiddled to something i like lol but now i got a 17g tank and i dunno how i want to decorate it :/

ya, you can't just draw plans and build your deco for your tank and be satisfied with it! I tried it(I have roman rubble and colums and stuff) You have to list all the stuff that would look good in your tank (and together) you dont want spongebob standing on bogwood(in a middle of a natural looking tank) ;)

But just go out and buy the stuff and look at pics of other peoples stuff and well jsut mess around until you figure out the right design for you and your fish to enjoy.

for my tanks...... <see member pictures> I went out and gathered river rock after I saw some tanks with them then just kinda designed it but I change it all the time so my fish dont get to territorial :p

I try to set my tanks to be as close to the fishes natural enviroment as possible, for the 200 gallon the majority of the fish are of amazonian origin so i have set the tank up to mimick a area of flooded jungle with tall pieces of bogwood to mimick tree stumps that have been stripped of foliage by the fast flowing acidic water. http://fish.orbust.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=44848
In the 80 brackish tank i have tried to recreate a brackish mangrove swamp with root like pieces of wood positioned so that they come down from the top of tank and are suspended just above the substrate and a few pieces of normal wood littered about the substrate. http://fish.orbust.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=34207
In the 40g again the theme is based on the amazon but this time on a driftwood snag where pieces of tree broken off by the current have been trapped against rocks and have bunched up to create a dam. In this tank the wood has been litterally thrown into the tank and been allowed to just sit where it landed in a pile just as it would have in nature. http://fish.orbust.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=41215&hl=
I also have a Asian cryptocoryne swamp tank which houses two dwarf snakeheads and a African river tank with kribs, congo tetras and upside down cats which are still in the developing stages, photos will be given when they are finished.
