hi there

hope you all had a good xmas

i have a 180lt tank, i am running a ehiem wet and dry 2227 filter and use a sand substrate. I had previously mentioned that althought i like the sand it wasnt easy to keep clean. I installed the filter and hoped the direction of the outlet would push the poo in the path of the intake. However all that seems to happen is the sand gets moved of the botttom and moved into piles leaving exposed bear tank.

i have tried place the spray bar at several location and currently have it facing backwards with the jets hitting the back glass. The fish poo does get moved around alittle but the intake on the pump seems very weak, and doesnt really suck up much. I have the intake almost touchung the sand but with a gap to allow waste through, the intake also takes in rubbish through the sides if the bottom becomes blocked. Does anyone have any ideas on how to improve the flow and intake or is this filter just not up to the job

thank you

Can you not have the spray bar pointing at the surface? The other option would be to take the spray bar off and just leave the outlet pipe with nothing on. This can increase flow but strangely enough not worry the substrate. As for the poo on the surface, use a vac and whirl it around about an inch above the surface then suck it up. People say that sand is so messy, but in fact it is alot cleaner than gravel due to it sitting on the surface rather than sinking into the gravel. This makes it alot easier to remove.
