Does anyone make a a tank roughly 2ft high but only 3ft long? This is the only thing i can think of that would be good for cichlids and fit in my room?

that would only be good for angel fish and some small dwarfs at the bottem of the tank.

I have a tank that's 2 ft tall and 2 ft long, and I've been told by a few members on the board that it's big enough for a firemouth cichlid plus some other stuff, so I think it would be fine.

A 65 gallon has those dimensions, 18"x36" footprint, 24" tall.

Tolak

I have a 2 foot high by 18" by 18" tank that I plan to use for seahorses soon. An lfs near me also stocks different sized 2 foot high tanks in their saltwater section (not badly priced too considering they are fairly big tanks and use thicker glass).

For cichlids, surface area is much more important than height (Angels do need a tall tank though)

IMO, most smaller cichlids would be happy in 6" of water, so unless you plan on keeping angels, a 3" long should be a good tank :)

having extra volume is always nice if you can afford the tank and filtration as it makes the water chemistry more stable.

MerAquatica will be able to make you a tank to what ever dimensions you like and at very good prices..... http://www.meraquatica.co.uk/

if for say you want to keep africans you want a huge ammount of rock in there to make enough holes and caves for everyone so the extra height is always useful!

genuine question; how do you get at the bottom of tall tanks? Mask and snorkel?!!

quite simply....with difficulty!!

when i'm moving anything around in the tanks i grab a stool to stand on, it's no point struggling in a 2ft deep tank when you might crush a fish.

You can get extendable arms like inspector gadgets from most toy shops.

Lol, no i beleive you can buy long 'claw' type things you can use to rearage things and grab things.

I beleive stock these.

You're lucky, I only use a wobbly, half broken chair! I tend to do alot of things in this manner (being accident prone doesn't help any either). Safety first isn't in my dictionary
