Well, I did what I had been planning to do for some time now. :D

I renovated my 5.5-gallon tank. ^^;

We bought a plastic tank divider for 10 gallons, and a filter (Tetra Whisper Internal Filter for 2 - 10 gallons), and some black gravel; and, today, we set it all up.

First of all, we cleaned the tank. Then, my Dad cut the divider to size, and we put *that* in. Thens, we opened the bag of black gravel, and; *P-O-U-R-E-D!* :D

The left compartment had the heater & thermometer; the right, the filter.

Anyways, then, we put in some marbles and some of my little sprigs of live plants (I *did* put a bushy plastic plant in the right compartment, but decided to take it out; I put a plastic plant in the left compartment, but Mr. Wimpy Fish split his bottom fins on it :( ), and put Mr. Wimpy Fish in the left compartment. We plugged the heater and filter, and the floor lamp, in; and went out. (My Mom and I.)

Well, we went to PetSmart, looking for a new filter sponge and *maybe* a male Betta (we found neither; none of theirs were appealing, for one thing; and, for another, since I was using my Mom's filter sponge and she needed to get one to cycle her tank agains (>.<;), we went there, but we didn't find the right one, only the ones for Fluval Edge tanks).

Then, we went to Big Al's. We found the filter sponge right aways, so my Mom was just looking for some more things (which she didn't get, btws), and told me to go look at the Bettas. I set my eyes upon one, and looked at the others, and my decision was made. I was *just* asking a store guy for assistance as my Mom came walking in. She wanted me to get a blue Betta. Well, I wanted a red one. We *also* got some water lettuce (floating plants) and some green cabomba. 6 lettuce, 2 cabomba. 3 lettuce went in each boys' compartment, and 1 cabomba. They had duct tape around them to keep them togethers, and I didn't take it off....

Well, anyways. He's a pink-bodied delta tail, and he's still very small (smaller than Mr. Wimpy Fish, anyhow), and he has red fins. ^^;

Mr. Wimpy Fish was *sooooo* mad when I put my new boy in. He was flaring across the divider (it's see-through), and the new boy was just kind of wimpy, and shy, and was exploring. He was exploring his side of the tank, down near the divider on the bottom on the left (he has the right compartment, see); and Mr. Wimpy Fish just, well.... sat there. XD He stared and stared at my new boy. :3

He seems to have trouble getting around the filter's current. :lol: Any advice on how to make the filter's output's current less? ^^;

Anyways, pictures to follow. :3

....or.... maybe not....

Sorry, the camera (and the computer) are both being *idiots*; and every time I click "Select All," I try to go back to the "Options" menu to Copy, then Cut the pictures; ands.... Well, it Not Responds on me. It stops, so I try again; does it again. DX Sorry. D:

Well, anyways; he's settling in *really* well! ^^; :3 >:3

I picked out a name for him!! :D

Judging by his size, I'd guess that he was born sometime around.... September, maybe? ^^;

With that, I had named him.... Libra. ^^; At first, I thought of Planty (he was *sooooo* fascinated with his green cabomba); a little later, I thought of Stigma, but then, I saw the meaning of the word, and I went all like, "Euu, no," so that was out; but then, I thought of Libra. ^^; It sounds cool, and I wanted to know if it was September, and it *is* mostly October, buts.... ^^; Eek! Libra sounds cool, *and* makes sense!!!! ^^;

Libra it is. :D

Something you can do to cut the current back a bit is to put some of those plastic plants right in front of it. The plant will break up the direct flow and the lower flows to the side will not bother Libra at all. I usually keep my bettas in big tanks with big filters and the bettas in there just swim around the high flow area unless they feel like exercising.

Maybe I will. ^^; Isn't there a method of putting a pantyhose thingy right over it....? :/
The panty hose trick didn't work for me. It does help with the intake as fins/small fish can't be sucked up, but the ONLY way I've found to reduce current is buy some general sponge media from the pet store and stuff it around the out take part and it'll slow down the water flow. I did that with my Tetra Whisper. I used duct tape to hold it in place (the tape does NOT touch the water in any way.) That's for my 10-gallon.

For my 5-gallon, I bought a Red Sea Nano Filter with an adjustable flow and also stuck a bit of sponge to reduce outflow. I'm not sure if that filter would work for two fish, though. . .I'm using that filter for a single betta.
