Ok so this does not fall under any fish related problems but why are they greyed out!? Help!

Dunno why you put this in this section, but the bold areas are just sections in which there are new posts you have yet to read. Grey ones mean there are no newly unread threads.

Yes, grey posts are posts you have read. When a new reply is added to thst thread it will be blue again :3
