Has any used both that can give me an assessment of what the black of each is like in terms of colour in the aquarium, feel, whether the colour changes over time etc, comparatively speaking?

I'm pricing up substrate, the carabsea is more expensive, just wondering if its worth the extra money or not really?

I used Limpopo and didn't really like it. It wasn't dark enough, it was more grey and didn't look that natural.

i say go for some Columbo flora base

lovely stuff!

I was planning on using John Innes, Ian, and doing a mix of gravels and sands to cap...

I have the Caribsea Tahitian Moon sand and I love it! It definately stays BLACK in the aquarium. Infact I would highly recommend Caribsea. I recently bought a bag and you got 2 free sachets inside to help clear the water and treat the water, one of which had sadly split in the bag so I contacted Caribsea in the States by email and they UPS Expressed me some further sachets for free -- they sent them on the 11th of August and I received them yesterday!! Great customer service and I'd say great sand too :good:

Cool, thanks Robin :good: might just go for that, although it seems the smallest amount I can buy is about 10kg, which is way more than I need!

Has anyone used the Unipac black micro gravel?

Tell me about it! Bought it last weekend and it's a huge bag and I don't even think I've used half of it! :/

Iv got the tahitian moon sand and its very black. I brought mine from seapets, cheapest i could find and free delivery

dont buy the limpopo whatever you do unless your planning on keeping malawi's im gonna have to rip all mine out as its raised the pH from 6.2 to 8.2 really annoyed it doesnt say anything about it changing water chemistry on green machine so thats £100 down the drain and another £100 to put out to replace it
