so my swordtail gave birth today to about 100 swordtail fry i only kept 8 i let the rest get eaten because in the long run i wont be able to keep them anyway as my tank is fully stocked as it is but i wanted to keep some incase of a few things fish die so on and so forth my question is how long does it take for swordtail fry to get about 1 inch as that will be big enough that they wont get eaten by my other fish

Hey zekes, it OM47 doesn't pop through with the answer sometime tonight then post the question again in the livebearer section so it'll be seen in too places. I'm terrible on how long livebearer take to get to an inch, just know it seems fast!

~~waterdrop~~ :)

i dont know specifically about swordtail fry, but my platys took about 5 weeks, and the mollies about 3 i think. so maybe 4 or 5? that sort of timeframe i'd imagine

Swordtail fry growth rate is largely determined by their water quality and the feeding they receive. If you can do frequent large water changes on their tank and feed the fry regularly with high quality feed, you will find them more than able to hold their own in a typical tank of small fish in about 4 to 6 weeks. They will not be a full inch long at that time but will be big enough that a tank full of small fish will ignore them.
