Well, when I started my tank, I was under the impression that I had all males (thank you, pet store) and that the fish I now know to be female, I was told was a male molly. So anyways, I went to clean the tank and pulled out the rocks, and whoa a behold, a little baby fish popped out. He was orange, already looked like a fish, and was cute as can be. Well, we watched him carefully and he is doing well. last weekend though, she had another baby, and he seems to be doing well at this time. It was suggested to me that I put the momma in a breeding net when she is close to having the babies so they will all survive. My thought process is, I only have a 10 gallon tank, and I can't really afford to upgrade right now. Will it have physical or psychological affects on the fish to just let nature do its thing? I don't want the fish to get stressed by overpopulation, but I don't want to kill the surviving babies. I also don't want to remove the momma, cause she is happy and last time I tranferred a fish to a new tank, it died. Any advise?

Tbh i wouldnt really bother with saving the babies other wise the tank will get quickly over populated and there not easy to sell of even give away because of the numbers of them there are out there. I would just leave them to it in the tank you should still get the odd ones but a lot less likely to get overrun with them that way.

I appreciate the insight. Will the activity of them being eaten/dying cause any stress on the population of the tank? That's the other thing i was worried about was re-introduction of ammonia levels in the water. I'm still a beginner at this and it took me months to get the water to the condition it is in now. I don't know what the "activities" can do to alter that.

No there shouldnt be any problems, they will just get eaten and be extra food for the Swords. Whats in the tank? 10G is a little on the small side for Swords tbh but if there still young you should get away with it for a while.

the swords aren't to big. I don't have that many and they have numerous inches of space between each fish. I am currently looking at expanding, just trying to save the money for it. I'm about 3/4 the way to having enough money to do so. Right now, I only have 4 fish in the tank, plus a small algae eater. The two small babies make 5 and 6, which is why we are looking to upgrade, but with crap economy and 2 kids its proving to be a difficult thing to accomplish.
