Swimming In Current

The tank is a fluval spec, the two smallest fish look like mollies according to Google images, the ones I have a are tiny, wouldn't even be the size of fingernail, the fish all seem happy, swimming about and exploring and tested the pH level of the water and it's 7.4, water is clear! Just measured the tank, it is 50cm by 17cm by 27cm

That would appear to be approximately 23 litres or 6 gallons.  This is not going to be enough space for mollies.  The betta alone will be OK.

I realize the mollies are small, but they grow, or will if they have space as they develop.  Please return them, they will not make it.

Ok well I'll see if they will take them back if not I'll get another tank, kinda like them! Thanks for all the advice, there's a lot more to it than filling a tank with water!

there is a heck of a lot more to keeping fish than buying a glass box, filling it with water and chucking in any fish that catches your eye! The sad thing is, a lot of the large pet chains would have you believe it's a doddle and 'it's only a fish, right?'

We spend a lot of our time here helping people who have been to the local large chain pet store, been given terrible advice, and are now here looking for a solution to a whole host of problems. The good news if you've found us here and we're here to help and advise where we can.

As others have said the mollies will grow, right now they are babies, but like any animal they start out tiny and grow into - in this case - big fish! If you are determined to keep them then they will need a much bigger tank ... I would be looking toward a 100 litre tank at least. That's around 3ft in length. If you don't have the space for that in your home then you need to re-home the mollies. I would agree that this 20 litre tank is only big enough for the betta really. If you want to add some interest then you could add some shrimps or a colourful snail or two. It's also probably just big enough for 5-6 pigmy cories as the betta will be in the upper levels and the cories are bottom dwellers - but they will need a sand substrate
