Am playing with the idea of doing a 500L marine tank just fish with LR. My waters ph 6.5 and don't want to start messing with buffers, mixing the salt water is enough of chew on every 6 days is it at all doable or is the 7.5-8.5 ph a must?

A good quality salt mix will more than likely bring your ph up sufficiently (if not it isn't really that hard to bring up!)

ah ha see i didt think of that, so maybe go mix a up a batch of salt see what it comes out at? is there nay that people recommend is the best or is all a muchness?

That's a good plan!

Which is the best salt is the most hotly debated topic in the hobby! My advice would be that if you are going fish only then don't bother with the super expensive ones - just pick one that you are happy with and stick with it.

Thanks ainsy the sw set up is back on, reef forums suggests Royal Nature Reef Salt 23kg ( 700 litre mix ) - £54.99 seems ok :good:

Will be awhile before set up but at least i know the ph problem should be easy now....now i need to make enough DIY LR to fill 500L, that on its own should take me 2-3 months lol

It sure will!

Don't forget that it will take quite a while to 'cure'! (You won't have low ph problems till it does - the problem will be too high!)

yeah prob take me a month to make them then i predict 2 months to cure? the only info i cant find is there a negative to DIY LR

I never made a tank full of it :hyper:

Only the odd rock here and there to fill gaps in the reef!

Thanks i been shopping this week

69kg Royal Nature Reef Salt
Digi Ph tester
D&D refractometer
Bubble magus nac7

lol so it begins....

yeah i have the liquid kits as well but i thought for a quick check it will pay for its-self in time alone. Cant find a bad word about the magus. I will be doing a build thread but maybe over at UR not sure yet, the tank will be 600L of usable water with 2 weirs and sump :good:
