I hope this isn't an emergency, but last night I noticed a pink mark on one side of my Dwarf Gourami's mouth. It looks almost like a cut. I'm not sure what could have caused it, or if it's dangerous, but any advice would be appreciated. His behaviour is otherwise completely normal and he is feeding normally.

Tank size is 64l with a sand substrate

Tank mates are 2 platies and 6 neons (platies have been in 3 months, the Gourami has been in 2 months, and the neons have been in 1 month).

Tank temp is roughly 25C

I do 15% water changes weekly (using aquasafe and occasionally stress zyme and plant food)

ammonia - 0
no3 - 50
no2 - 0
ph - 7.6

Everything sounds good, but could you post a picture? It would help people figure out what it is a lot easier.

Afraid I don't have a camera good enough to pick it out, but it looked a bit worse this morning. It's a definite pink lump on the right side of his mouth. Could it be some kind of infection?

Dwarf Gourami Disease (Iridovirus) starts in 90% of the cases with a pink wound around it's head. Have seen this the past two years a dozen of times I am afraid. Earlier was thought it was fish TB, but it appeared to be a (irido)virus in most of the imported dwarfs from Asia.
I can be wrong and you can try to treat, but all cases as mentioned ended the same way = intreatable and the death of the fish. Sorry !!!

That's really sad to hear, he's a great fish. I know you said untreatable, but is there anything that might be worth trying? Even if there's very little chance he'll survive, I'll feel better if I know I tried to do all I could...

It's a shame pressure breeding of this species "destroyed"this beautifull fish. I hope to get some German bred ones soon and try to breed them.
Off course I can be wrong with my diagnosis, but little chance you could help this fellow I think. Have seen sooooo many threads about this. Is the spot getting bigger fast ?

I can't say I can notice a difference day-to-day, but it's certainly more prominent than when I first noticed it last week. The mark is still small, but certainly a brighter pink.

Just to let you all know, he died over the weekend. Reallly sad, he was a great character and the tank is not the same without him.

Awwww sorry to hear!!! If you are thinking about a new one, try to get some local-bred ones. Greetings Aad
