i have a lower end of the spectrum Yamaha AV reciever (the RX-V361) hooked up to a cheapish set of Yamaha Speakers and i find it to be absolutely superb, for the price its a great value setup. i have it plumbed into my Xbox360, my Sky+HD box and my Samsung BD-P1500 Blu Ray player and im never disapointed with the quality of the sound.

i would like to upgrade the AV Reciever to one with HDMI inputs and a HD Audio decoder though, i just always seem to find other things to spend my money on!

to bring the thread slightly back on topic i have one of the rear speakers sat next to the tank and it doesn't bother the fish in the slightest

To really bring it back on topic;

Many years ago I played guitar in a metal band. It was as loud as you would expect a bunch of guys who loved high wattage equipment to be. We practiced at the drummer's house, above where we practiced he bred oscars. Breeding fish are generally considered to be happy fish, unless his fish were into loud heavy metal music.

A buddy of mine deals with imports, 24 hours from the Amazon to his tanks. He lives a couple of blocks from a major airport, right under a flight path. You have to stop talking for several seconds when a commercial air liner flies over. They blow the trees around as they pass, you can feel a nice strong breeze after they go by, that close. Many tanks in his garage, thousands of neons at a time, among other rather sensitive fish. The survivability rate is amazingly good, the shops love him.

Fish get acclimated to sound just like any other animal, dogs & cats in the city get used to the noise, I've worked in several shops with loud equipment where they had a shop dog. ATM it's a Siberian Husky that sleeps a few feet away from a large hydraulic paper cutter.

its looking like a yamaha amp is the way to go.... tried on some other forums (av) and this i get mose response from this forum.... all this is helping me make my mind up tho

RX-V565 or RX-V765..... wot u think?
