Surface Plants...

I'm after a surface plant that'll offer fish cover and protection from the canopy lights. Something with broadish leaves that won't grow and crowd to fast?. Any recommendations?

I've got Hydrocotyle leucocephala or Brazilian Pennywort. It's a bit of a fast grower though, so maybe you wouldn't like it. Have you tried Lemna minor or Duckweed? I don't like it because it tends to take over your tank if left unchecked.
