I was going to get tanks and fish, after months of planning, but my parents got a divorce, making me live in two houses, ruining my fishkeeping dreams. =[
But I left a small 2.5 gallon set up with some extra plants from a long time ago. It just had sand, plants, a mini-HOB filter, and some pest snails(MTS, little pond snails). Because I was living in two different houses, and couldn't do regular maintenance and feeding, I didn't stock it, and just left it. I just kept on topping it up with de-cholrinated water when the filter started sucking air. Almost a year later, today, I decided to do a full water test, just for fun. I found the massive overgrowth of plants and algae kept everything low. The filter is probably cycled, not sure.

Nitrite:0
Nitrate:3ish
pH:8.4
For having no water changes and only water refills for a year, that's pretty impressive!
So now, my crazy mind is thinking of something to stock it with. Bad part is, I'll never know when I'll be at my dad's house (With the tank). So it must be very low maintenance. So I come to you all, requesting help.

Must be able to be fine without anything for about a week.
The only thing I can think of is shrimp... and that's iffy.

I love the fact both my boys have an interest in my tanks, although the 3 year old is a little too interested sometimes.
