Hello just a few question's about sun coral.

1)What foods do they need and should I get a pipette to target feed them?

2)How fast do they grow with good feeding?

3)Am I right in thinking they only need 3-5 feeds a week?

4)Am I ready for a black one as well as a yellow?

5)How do I make them open up in the day?

Any help will be much appreciated.

I will be buying them from cockfields and will be choosing the on that is the most plump.

Lovely coral that can be the most stunning thing in your tank if looked after

I had one and sold after few months as the care required took too much time

A pipette is essential for the frozen shrimp brine or mysis etc

I fed mine every other day and if you don't keep up they can quickly decline

Good luck

hi simonas, haven't seen you in the forum for a while....how's things? (sorry for hijacking)

i wouldnt recommend black one, sorgan had some trouble and he is more experianced, stick with normal for now

Liam sun corals are easy as long as they are fed :)
Feed with any meaty foods that will fit lol, this can be from cyclops to chopped mysis.

They will grow fast if your feeding and calcium are spot on.
Feed every few days, and the blacks are much harder to keep.. I have many oranges (well I did I have sold most of them) and brought many back from the brink but I am still having issues with my black one. Get some sun time with the yellow/oranges first. Only try a black if it's a top feeder and very healthy.

They will open in the day if they are -
- in a shady place
- well fed
- can smell food or are expecting food.

Liam if you want more help you know what to do.

Wow thanks Sorgan thats pretty much covered all of my questions.

And I didn't think I would be ready for a black one but it was worth a try

Yellow or black?

Yellows every few days, blacks every day.

Defiantly will get some pics up ive already picked it out and is waiting to be paid for then sent to me. :hyper:

Oh and it has 9 heads for £12

I have also got a syringe, blood worm and some mini plankton along with my mysis. :D

What about if one goes on a 2-3 week holiday, would the (yellow/orange) corals still manage without food for that period of time, as long as they are fed regularly at other times?

yes and no, they will survive (yellows not black) but you may have to re train them afterwards
