I currently have a Reef Octopus Diablo DC 10500, which I purchased used.
Based on some online reviews the pump is supposed to be extremely quiet.

Now I can definitely hear a little buzz/motor noise, nothing extremely loud but not dead silent.

So my question is, for those with pumps that are supposed to be extremely quiet, are your pumps dead silent or will they always make somewhat a noise?

The reason why I am asking is that if it's supposed to be silent, I plan on selling it and buying a Jebao DCP Sine Wave Water Return Pump - DCP-8000 instead. I've taken it apart and no luck, same noise.

Thanks in advance.

I have never had that brand of pump, but all my water pumps (AquaClear and Eheim) have been quiet when in water. Some pumps will make a bit of noise if they are on a glass bottom or if the tank is not on foam. But it should not make a lot of noise when running in water.

No machine with moving parts is completely silent. The best you can hope for is an electric humming but with water flowing through it I would think there will always be a gurgle. Doesn't bother me. I like those funny fish room sounds.
